The ongoing covid pandemic isn’t a surprise to anyone nowadays it’s something that we have collectively come to accept as the new standard of the world where masks and social distancing are the new norms with no vaccine yet. It can’t be explained by having a brief introduction to covid

WHAT IS COVID — 19? & ITS SYMPTOMS

Wikipedia defines it as “Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious respiratory and vascular disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first case was identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, though evidence suggests the virus may have been actively spreading months earlier”

with symptoms “ Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, fatigue, breathing difficulties, and loss of smell and taste. Symptoms begin one to fourteen days after exposure to the virus. While most people have mild symptoms, some people develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS can be precipitated by cytokine storms, multi-organ failure, septic shock, and blood clots.”

WHAT IS COVID-19 TRACKER? AND WHY I MADE IT

Now with our brief introduction to Covid — 19 let’s talk about what I did personally to tackle the issue. With 3rd Semester going on and all the classes being online, I received a capstone project to make in Design Thinking And innovation subject however first I was confused and couldn’t think of anything to come up with however keeping up with the ongoing pandemic I almost daily use to search for covid updates on the google and see the Analytics and related data which sparked the idea of “COVID- 19 Tracker “ an app which is cross-platform runs on both IOS and Android.

WHAT DOES IT DO AND HOW WAS IT MADE?

I see you’re as curious like me to know about it, the functionality and software used. Covid19 tracker shows the user all the related analytics to covid from Tests to several recovered patients and even sadly number of deaths. All with an Amazing UI and on top of that it Gives a Graphical representation of all the data that updates every time the user scrolls time in real-time with updated values and the user can select any country whose analytics they wish to see. Here are some attached working screenshots

Sofware Required

For building the app Covid19 Tracker, Flutter SDK was used in Android Studio and the app was written in Dart Language with plugins provided from Flutter

What I learned & What did I overcome?

I have certainly faced some challenges and delays, just like any project.

Yet I took the ability to learn and develop more insight and expertise from my shortcomings.

Any of the problems were:

  • I operated with the beta version of the Flutter SDK offered by Here, so there was a shortage of documentation and feedback associated with accuracy problems.
  • I had no previous experience with designing applications, producing flutters, or working with SDKs.
  • But I had to learn the fundamentals from scratch as soon as possible, which certainly placed certain limits on the time available.
  • It was difficult to assess my application due to travel constraints and to reduce our time spent outside of our homes.
  • Due to the length of the code in the main dart file, I encountered problems with the installation and consistency and hence had to break our code into several sections for ease of access and performance.
  • With some of the dart files that were imported from the SDK, I encountered problems in implementation and retracing

WHAT I LEARNED FROM ALL THIS

  • The fundamentals of software creation in the Android studio using the flutter platform.
  • Learned the fundamentals of dart language in the flutter structure for development.
  • Learned the operations and uses of SDKs, and how to incorporate and use these plugins to create applications.
  • How to troubleshoot and generate errors by the implementation.

CONCLUSION

In all of its merit with concluding words, I would say it was an enriching experience to develop a working project with something bigger in mind and keeping perspective of the present in mind. I loved working on android studio and flutter and even right now I’m writing a blog which is also a learning experience with that I would like to acknowledge my mentors and teacher Mr. Tapas Badal who was there to overview and help with technical stuff and thanks to everyone for staying at home and keeping everyone safe in these times
